THE GAME

A voice party game for four to eight people on a 1970s game show. A card asks how many rock bands you can name in thirty seconds, and the table bids up how many they claim they could. Press SCREW IT! and the bidding stops dead — the last claimant walks to the microphone, and your money is on them failing.

01

You sit in your own booth, in first person: a cathode-ray tube on the desk, a red button under your hand, a mechanical counter and a telephone. There is no HUD — everything the game tells you is printed on an object in the room.

02

A round is an auction on a claim. Raising means “I could name nine of those” and hands the risk to the next player; pressing the button ends the auction on the spot and puts your money against whoever is left holding it. Nothing checks the answer: three jurors are drawn as the performance starts, and the median of what they counted decides it.

03

Lose and you wear a penalty card into the next rounds. Every third round a sabotage card goes to open auction, and the producer may ring one desk with a card for 12, sight unseen. Twelve rounds, everyone playing at once after every fourth, and a volleyball set to finish — whoever wins that set is Champion, not whoever has the most money.

WHAT YOU DO

Backing out is a bet

The button is not an exit. Pressing it ends the auction instantly, seats the last bidder at the microphone, and puts you personally on the “they will fail” side. Get that wrong and you are the one drawing the penalty card.

Nothing checks your answer

There is no accepted-answer list in the game, on purpose: any list would be incomplete, and an incomplete list punishes somebody for being right. Three jurors are drawn as the performance starts, each keeps their own tally, and the median decides it.

The punishment is worn in public

Lose and you carry it into the next rounds: helium or a censor on the voice going out, a drunk camera, a counter that lies to you, or a head twice its size on every screen but your own. Never more than three at once, and always on a timer.

QUESTIONS

Four to eight, and yes — the whole game is spoken. You perform out loud and other people count what they hear, so a headset is the one requirement. The mic is open by default; push-to-talk, mute, deafen and a per-player volume mixer are all there if you want them.
